Tell us a bit about yourself
Hi, I’m Mark, a Cybersecurity Consultant at BlueFort, where I’ve proudly been part of the team for over 12 years. I’ve always had a deep fascination with technology, not just understanding how things work, but how to make them work smarter, faster, and better. That curiosity has shaped my entire career and continues to drive me every day.
How did you get started in cybersecurity?
My journey into cybersecurity began right here at BlueFort, where I started out as a Junior Technical Consultant.
Before that, I managed an Apple reseller store, overseeing daily operations, troubleshooting customer issues, and performing hands-on repairs. It was a role that sharpened my problem-solving skills and gave me a solid grounding in both technology and customer service.
Making the move into cybersecurity was a huge and exciting leap, but from the moment I began, I knew I’d found my calling. I’ll always be grateful to Ian and Dave for taking a chance on me all those years ago. That opportunity didn’t just change my career path; it sparked a lifelong passion for cybersecurity and continuous learning.
What’s your role at BlueFort and what does it involve?
My role at BlueFort is wonderfully diverse. As a Cybersecurity Consultant, I work closely with customers to understand their challenges, identify risks, and design solutions that strengthen their security posture.
In addition to consultancy, I oversee and support our relationships with third-party vendors and manage customer success (CSM). It’s a unique mix of technical insight, problem-solving, and relationship-building and that diversity keeps things lively. No two days are ever the same, and that’s exactly how I prefer it.
What do you love about your job?
What I love most about cybersecurity is that it is constantly evolving. Every day introduces new technologies, emerging threats, and chances to learn something new. It’s a field that keeps you sharp, adaptable, and always curious.
I also find it incredibly rewarding to assist customers in solving complex problems, whether that’s finding the right solution to secure their environment, or introducing them to tools that truly make a difference in the fight against cyber threats.
Additionally, the incredible team here at BlueFort stands out. There’s something truly rewarding about collaborating with such talented, driven individuals and helping customers overcome challenges together.
What do you get up to outside of work?
When I’m not immersed in cybersecurity, I’m usually lost in the world of film. I love everything from the meticulously crafted visuals of Wes Anderson to the dark imagination of Guillermo del Toro, the psychological depth of Cronenberg, and the timeless brilliance of Martin Scorsese.
I’m also passionate about photography and videography, which give me a creative outlet to tell stories, capture moments, and see the world from a different perspective.
What does the future hold?
For me, the future is all about growth, both personally and professionally. The cybersecurity landscape is constantly evolving, and I’m excited to keep learning, exploring new technologies, and helping our customers stay ahead of the curve.
After 12 years at BlueFort, I’m just as excited about what’s next as I was on my very first day.
